On NFP: Reading the Jobs Report Candle, Not the Number
On NFP is the News-Induced Liquidity read applied to the jobs report, on a real release day from our chart markups. NFP is nonfarm payrolls, the headline of the Employment Situation report, out at 08:30 New York. News-Induced Liquidity says the release chooses the minute. On NFP looks at what that minute did to the stops, not at the number.

What does On NFP look like on a chart?
It can look like a day that had already turned, then ran in one candle. Gold on Friday 4 September 2026 had Nonfarm Payrolls on the calendar for 08:30. On gold we count $1 as one pip.

- The box. The Asian Box was 27 pips, 4459.93 to 4487.02.
- London's hunt. The 03:45 candle reached 4490.63, 4 pips over the box and the high of the day, then closed at 4483.23, back inside. That is the Close Back, on the same candle, hours before the release.
- The jobs candle. The 08:30 candle opened at 4470.48, fell to 4374.15 and closed at 4393.52: 97 pips end to end, 77 of them red body. Its low was 86 pips under the box and 7 through Thursday's low of 4380.74.
- The low. The 09:00 candle reached 4365.31, 9 pips under the jobs candle's low and 125 under the day's high.
- After. By 11:15 gold had traded back to 4448.55, 83 pips off the low.
So the jobs candle did not hold the low. We read the turn as London's, and the release as choosing the minute the run came. That morning the 08:30 candle did hold an end of the day on six of our eight markets. Gold was one of the two that did not.
The Three Seats split it like this. The first seat sees a jobs number and a huge red candle, and sells it. The market maker's seat has stops under the box and under Thursday's low, reachable in one minute everybody knows about. The observer can state the prices and read the order: the hunt came first, the news came second. Nobody outside can see the orders.
On NFP and NFP news trading: how do they differ?
NFP news trading asks which way the number sends price and how to get on it. Guides offer three plans: position before the report, fade the first move, or wait and trade what follows. On NFP is not a plan. It has no forecast in it and says nothing about entries. It says which minute to watch and what to look at when it comes.
So the search has its own pages. How to trade NFP takes the first minutes on real Fridays, and breakout, pullback or stay out compares the plans. NFP spreads and slippage covers the fill, and the average NFP move by pair how far each market runs. The NFP stop hunt goes further into the hunt, and what NFP means in forex is on the news trading guide. For another Friday already on the site, see the markups of the week of 1 June 2026.
How often does the NFP candle hold the high or low of the day?
Less often than the big candles suggest. We took the five jobs reports on our calendar from 8 May to 4 September 2026, on seven majors and gold, 40 market-days of 15-minute candles. A candle holds when its high is the day's high or its low the day's low, session break to session break, leaving out the spread spike on the day's first candle. It held on 12 of the 40: 4 highs and 8 lows.
By report: 1 on 8 May, 1 on 5 June, 3 on 2 July, 1 on 7 August and 6 on 4 September. Half of them came on one Friday. Nor were they all first Fridays: 8 May was the second Friday of its month and 2 July a Thursday, so the calendar decides, not the rule of thumb.
Five reports is a small sample, on one feed, with eight markets moving on one dollar. It counts candles, not trades. A reversal seen afterwards is not a setup, and our own test of the setup as a mechanical rule did not make money. News-Induced Liquidity sets the same count on every 08:30 release against days with none.
How do you spot the read on NFP?
On 4 September, look at what the morning had left by 08:30. London had gone 4 pips over the box and closed back nearly five hours earlier. The box bottom and Thursday's low at 4380.74 were still untouched. The jobs candle took both and closed back above Thursday's low, and price still traded 9 pips lower half an hour later.
What do traders get wrong on NFP?
Three things cost the crowd most that day.
- Calling the jobs candle the turn. Gold's high was nearly five hours old, and its low came half an hour after the release, 9 pips lower.
- Selling the big red close. From 4393.52 it fell 28 pips more, then traded 55 pips over that close by 11:15.
- Expecting the same Friday every month. The date moves. Read it from the calendar.
Which words does On NFP lead into?
Three sit next to it.
- News-Induced Liquidity: the extra orders a scheduled release brings in at one known minute.
- The Reversal Candle: one huge candle through the stops, straight after the crowd gets in.
- The Week's High and Low: the pool the WTF Reversal runs for.

Frequently asked questions
What does On NFP mean?
On NFP is Forexia's name for the News-Induced Liquidity read applied to the jobs report. It leaves the number alone and asks what the candle at the release did to the stops nearest price. It is a read, not a way of trading the report.
What time is NFP released, and is it always the first Friday?
It comes out at 08:30 New York, usually on the first Friday of the month, but check the calendar. Of the five reports we counted from May to September 2026, 5 June, 7 August and 4 September were first Fridays. 8 May was the second Friday of its month, and 2 July was a Thursday.
Does the NFP candle mark the high or low of the day?
Sometimes. On five reports from 8 May to 4 September 2026, on seven majors and gold, the 08:30 candle held the day's high or low on 12 of 40 market-days. Half of those came on one Friday, 4 September, and gold was not among them. It is a small count of candles, not a strategy.
Is On NFP the same as NFP news trading?
No. NFP news trading asks which way the number sends price and how to enter. On NFP asks where the stops sit and what the candle did to them. How to trade the release is covered on our guide to it. Forexia's own test of the setup as a mechanical rule did not make money.
